Managers have the responsibility of hiring new team members. Most managers, however, do not have much experience on how to ask questions, how to listen, interpret, and use the responses of candidates to gauge future performance.
Interviewing is an art. It is partly being an investigator, partly following instincts. It is also asking smart questions that are probing and inviting the candidate to share their thought process.
How you interview a candidate, is a reflection of your company. If you end up not hiring a candidate, they may still be in the industry and your paths may cross again. They may also be your customer one day.
